The Canadian federal government’s roadmap for reopening tourism and general travel into Canada will initially reopen for Americans only.
Beginning August 9th, fully vaccinated travelers who are either American citizens or permanent residents of the United States will be welcomed back.
Children under 12 who are accompanied by their fully vaccinated parents are exempt from the vaccination requirement but are recommended to avoid groups and high-contact situations.
Provided this initial opening phase goes well, and covid cases within Canada remain at a reasonable rate, the reopening for all other fully vaccinated travelers who meet “specific entry requirements” will begin on September 7th.
Update: As of September 7th, fully-vaccinated people from any country can come into Canada for non-essential travel. As a first step, fully-vaccinated Americans can do the same starting August 9th. At every step, the safety of Canadians will continue to be our top priority. https://t.co/UhnCDpUdW5

What you’ll need to enter Canada
Step one will be a requirement of proof of full vaccination, completed a minimum of 14 days before entry. Canada won’t accept partial or unvaccinated tourists. All currently available vaccines from the US are approved – Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson.
Canada has also stated it will require a negative PCR test prior to entry.
All information will need to be entered into the ArriveCAN app or website before arrival.
Initially, nine airports in Canada will be available for tourism arrivals:
- Montréal-Trudeau International Airport
- Toronto Pearson International Airport
- Calgary International Airport
- Vancouver International Airport
- Halifax Stanfield International Airport
- Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport
- Ottawa Macdonald–Cartier International Airport
- Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport
- Edmonton International Airport
Upon arrival, you may be subject to a random day-one molecular covid test.
While no quarantine will be required for fully vaccinated covid negative travelers, each will still be required to have a quarantine plan in case they don’t meet entry requirements and must quarantine.
