Lessons From Digital Nomads
π¨βπ» Over the past few months, we’veΒ interviewed 30+ digital nomadsΒ about their stories, advice, and lessons. Here are some of my favorite quotes from recent interviews!
“I, of course, had a great deal of anxiety that I wouldnβt be able to make money consistently to support myself. Should someone else be feeling the same way, my advice would be to just pull the trigger. You can always go home if it doesnβt work out.β –Β Jade Laurenza’s Interviewβ
βHands down, my most important life lesson is you only get one life! Too many people take their months, days, hours, seconds for granted…If I only had a few minutes to live, I would ask people if they are genuinely enjoying how they are spending their time. Are they doing the things they love? Or are they putting things on the back burner, saying they will get to it βlater?β Nothing in this life is guaranteed.β –Β Michelle Knight’s Interviewβ
βThe most important thing is to set a date. It doesnβt have to be today or tomorrow, but pick a day when you are going to start your first trip as a nomad. That was the moment that changed everything for me.β –Β Neville Mehra’s Interviewβ
“One thing I have seen that sets many people back [from becoming a digital nomad] is self-doubt. Can I do it? Should I/Shouldnβt I? There is no room for that in this lifestyle…If you want to truly make a success of it, you will have to be able to think rationally about things and follow through.” –Β Louise Pieterse’s Interviewβ
7 Micro-Essays From The Last 7 Days

Take Action, Take Action, Take Action
π¬ This principle is 10,000% true. The age old advice is to wait to start a business once you have more experience.
But as you build experience, you get comfortable with your salary, increase your lifestyle costs, you start a family. So in many ways, starting a business as you get older becomes significantly more complicated.
In the book,Β Originals: How Non-Conformists Move The World, the author says that the only difference between Originals and Non-Originals isΒ taking action. Don’t wait.

Fast Growth Doesn’t Require Perfection
π This was one of my biggest takeaways from my time working at DoorDash. I naively assumed that a very, very fast growing company would be a somewhat well oiled machine.
In reality, internally, it was a dumpster fire with loads of issues. The big lesson for me is that things don’t need to be perfect to grow insanely fast; they just have to be good enough.

The Value of Journaling
π I’ve been progressively working on my note-taking in recent years, but this is a powerful nudge to do more. I’ll be writing an article soon about my transition from Evernote to Roam ResearchΒ in an effort to interlink more of my thoughts.
If this is a topic that’s of interest, I recommend checking outΒ this course on Roam Research.

The Power of Freedom
β±οΈ Once I figured out how to make money independently, it became unfathomable to go back to being an employee.
It’s life-changing to control your time, schedule, who you work with, what you work on, etc. If you want more freedom, explore starting a business,Β becoming a freelancer, orΒ becoming an asynchronous employee.
